Keep Cool with these fun Water Activities!

Summers in Texas are no joke. The days are sweltering, with temperatures well into 90-degree heat, and Austin averages about 16 days of 100-degree or more weather. Needless to say, Austin residents could use some summer activities that keep them from suffering too much. Here are some water activities to try out this summer to stay cool and beat the heat. SUP ATX The largest stand up paddle board maker on earth, SUP is spreading the sport as much as possible. You and your friends can shop for paddle boards, rent some for an excursion, or even book private parties. SUP offers a great way to spend time outdoors and in the sun without overheating--you're always a jump away from the cool refreshment of water. Bat Cruise If you want to mix it up and do something out of the ordinary you should check out Capital Cruise's bat-watching cruises. Avoid the heat of the day and the potentially harmful sun and opt in to a bat-watching adventure. It's only $10 per person and you get to sit back and get to know your city's bat population from the safety of a boat floating on a cool, refreshing river. Congress Kayaks Kayaking is a classic and timeless way to have fun during the hot summer. Grab some friends, pack a lunch and get to paddling. It's fun to kayak with a group, on a date or even solo. Take to the water to enjoy sightseeing your city from a different angle. Check out the sunset offerings if avoiding the beating sun is your goal. Volente Beach Waterpark This option is great for families. Located on the shores of Lake Travis, Volente Beach Waterpark is just outside of Austin and has tons of good times waiting for you. Go just for the day or check out renting a lakeside cabin--either way, the water park is both entertaining and cool. Austin during the summer does not have to be too hot to handle. If you're looking for ways to escape the heat that do not involve public pools or lawn sprinklers, check out the quirky ways to stay cool and calm. Of course, staying indoors and banishing the summer sun entirely is always an option. But wouldn't it be way more fun to check out what your city has to offer?
