Earth Day Events In Austin

April 22nd is Earth Day--a celebration in which 192 countries around the world take part. This year's Earth Day is focused on environmental and climate literacy, and the idea that education fosters progress. The city of Austin is just one of the countless participants across the globe for this year's Earth Day Festivities. Read on to find out about all the events happening this weekend (April 21-23). Earth Day Austin- April 22nd As the largest sustainability event in Central Texas, Earth Day Austin serves as the meeting place for thousands of Austinites to gather and get educated about tons of green centric topics like sustainable solutions and green businesses. This year the Earth Day ATX event will be at the Hutson-Tillotson University campus (in East Austin just off of I-35) from 12:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A 'Zero Waste' event, this gathering is all about educating the community on how to live more green and sustainably. March for Science- April 22nd Held at the Texas State Capitol, marchers intend to march for science and to stand in solidarity with allies and likeminded thinkers around the globe who think science is worth defending and celebrating. Marches for science will be happening in cities all over the world. Technically a satellite march, the main science march will take place in D.C. with celebrations spanning the entire globe. Give 5 to Mother Earth Day- April 21st Give 5 To Mother Earth Day is a movement in which participating business partners in the greater Austin area pledge to donate 5% of their sales on April 21st to environmental non-profits (including: Shoal Creek Conservancy, Hill Country Conservancy, Sustainable Food Center, Waller Creek Conservancy, Austin Parks Foundation, Texas Campaign for the Environment Fund, Friends of Barton Springs Pool, Park Pease Conservancy, and TreeFolks) Earth Day Live Festival- April 23rd Held at the Historic Scoot Inn, the Earth Day Live Festival's lineup includes Jonathan Tyler, Guy Forsyth, Harvest Thieves, Ed Jurdi and Gordi Quist, Sour Bridges, and Mike Shoenfeld among others. The $20 ticket will benefit the Hill Country Conservatory and the Sun Radio Foundation. No matter what you consider to be a good time, you're guaranteed to find an Earth Day event that excites you.
