Westlake Hills Area Construction

Construction can be a great thing--new developments bring in more revenue and new jobs to the area--but construction can also be incredibly frustrating. Detours, traffic, loud and unceasing noise are just a few reasons why construction isn't all-positive. Read on for updates about the ongoing construction process in and around the Westlake Hills area as well as some tips to operate your vehicle safely through the chaos.   According to Assistant City Manager, Robert Goode, the projects pose a major challenge. In fact, certain phases cannot even be initiated until other plans are thoroughly analyzed, reviewed and coordinated. Other issues posed involve lack of contractors and available workers.   All in all, the construction is predicted to begin in June 2017 if all things go according to plan. Projects like sidewalk installation--especially around bus stops and schools--are intended to enhance the city.   Moreover, there are corridor plans in place directed William Cannon Drive and Slaughter Lane. These two plans are two in a group of nine corridor plans totaling around $482 million.   Specifically concerning the West Austin area are projects such as the RM 620 bypass at RM 2222 in which an additional roadway will be built to connect the two, though this plan is slated for implementation in 2018 and 2019.   Additionally, there are plans in place to add both over and underpasses at the Loop 360 intersection between US 183 and MoPac. Once again, this plan will but in motion in the not so immediate future, with estimations of occurrence in 2022-2024.   Major overhauls are headed your way, so how can you drive safely? The key here is staying alert. Respect and pay close attention to detour signs, people holding directional flags and, of course, other drivers around you. Keep a safe distance between you and the car in front of you and slow it down. More than anything else, you should just practice patience and expect the inevitable delays. Stay safe out there!
